Our virtual choir is returning for a short winter term in the run-up to Christmas. This is open to everyone, whether you've sang in our choir before or not!
We are excited that Drifters frontman Steve V. King will be joining us for a festive virtual concert on our last session.
We have a lovely Christmas repertoire lined up with learning tracks and sheet music which, as before, we will send out to everybody that signs up. This should help us all get into the Christmas spirit, especially as there will be no parties, shopping trips or Winter Wonderland this year!
The term dates are as follows:
November 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
The fee for the term is £40, which includes 5 rehearsals (comprising of a warm-up session, a round and a 4-part song), sheet music and downloadable rehearsal tracks. If you’ve never sung in our choir before, the first session is free to try us out.
We are currently holding virtual choir rehearsals until further notice via Zoom. These will be on Tuesdays from 7:0...
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to meet up in September thanks to the combination of relaxed government guidelines, the discovery of a lovely outdoor venue, and good weather!
At the beginning of September we stumbled upon the beautiful new Wisteria Café at the Flowerland Garden Centre in Bourne End, and decided to host a choir social there.
One popular social turned into two, and almost everyone in the choir managed to make at least one of the events, so it was a wonderful chance to catch up with each other for the first time since March!
It was very encouraging to see how much of a community we still are, and we are looking forward to the day when we can meet up in person again.
We are very pleased to have held a successful choir term online this summer using Zoom. It was great to keep the choir going during lockdown and provided some much needed friendly faces and community during these difficult times. About half our choir took part, which was an achievement as I don't think any of us had even heard of, let alone used Zoom before!
We overcame the technical impossibility of singing together by using emailed sheet music, individual learning tracks and beautiful a capella recorded choral tracks to imitate real life. If we aren't able to meet up in person again in the autumn, we will hopefully run another virtual choir, so watch this space!
The BBC Radio Berkshire Truck visited Maidenhead on the 10 December to interview political candidates for the Maidenhead constituency. We were invited to lighten up the mood by performing one of our favourite Christmas tunes, a Jingle Bells mashup!
Our Christmas concert this year was held on the 7th December at the lovely Dorney Court Garden Centre in the afternoon. We performed a set of fun Christmas tunes outside the cafe and were very pleased with the turnout on a bitterly cold day!
We were thrilled to be asked to take part in a charity concert for the Samaritans alongside Tina May, Laurie Holloway, and other great performers. The event took place on the 23rd November at St Bernard's Catholic School in Slough with all proceeds going to support the Samaritans of Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead. All in all, it was a wonderful evening of varied performances and we even got the chance to perform with Laurie Holloway with a jazzy 'Route 66'!
We were excited to be invited to take part in a recording of Songs of Praise with the BBC. The recording took place in the beautiful Reading Town Hall, with the choir led by famous gospel composer Ken Burton and a guest performance by Rick Astley.
Our summer social this year was a picnic held at Taplow Court on the 4th August. Everybody brought delicious food to share and it was lovely to reminisce with everyone about the last year and look forward to the next one!
The Choir Christmas Party was held at The Cricketers in Littlewick Green on Tuesday 11th December. There was a delicious 2 course meal, drinks, singing, and general merry-making... a great way to see out the year!
